One of the key issues for start-up life sciences businesses is that Laboratory space is very expensive to hire and there is very limited supply of accessible space in London.

The Affordable Lab Space will be a first of its kind in London and will put Whitechapel on the map as a place where start-up businesses can access lab space. This provision is very likely to mean that new life sciences businesses looking for workspace will cluster in and around the Whitechapel area creating new businesses and supply chains across a variety of interrelated related sectors.  

Lateral are in the process of securing commercial units in the new Silk District Scheme on Cavell Street to createAffordable Laboratory space as a precursor to the main development and start the creation of the campus immediately. The labs will start to immediately increase the growth of life sciences businesses in Whitechapel and provide vital space for start-up businesses to work on new scientific innovation.

The proposed pop-up space will provide 5,113 sq ft of state of the art space for three businesses and up to 34 researchers at anyone point in time.
